Dearest Mum,
First of all, I am simply outraged--I cannot believe that such a scoundrel could even exist, let alone do something like that to our Ivette. I shall be writing her a separate letter soon; honestly I just did not know what to say to her, but I am sure she is heartbroken.
I was so pleased when you told me about the betrothal--I did not even know Ivette was being courted! But you know she has always been a very quiet sort. And then for that cad to run away and marry a lass from Buckland instead--well, I think it just goes to show what sort of folks they are away across the Water.
Anyway, Bert's shipments of pipeweed has kept be so busy I have not been able to do much socializing lately, which has made me sad. But work before play, Uncle Will always says, so that is what I am trying to do. I want you all to be proud of me, naturally.
I am still looking very much forward to the Oldfurlong fish 'n fry coming up next week. I do hope Freddy can make it down, if his duties as a Bounder allows for such.
Missing you all terribly,
Rosa
