Barangolf had not expected a chat with Daelinn to turn into a spontaneous gathering of their hosts. First Annunghil had shown up, then more and more....
He wasn't displeased by this, however. The Elves of Imladris were gracious and considerate, even if they were overly serious and formal -- at least the one Elf woman, what had her name been? Elirael? She had the good sense to have wine for many people. Nobody was too serious for a glass of wine. And perhaps Makanare was an exception to the kind rule; she didn’t seem to appreciate having guests. She also had such a funny name! It wasn’t the Silvan his parents spoke, and it wasn’t Sindarin. How odd. And that Isebrien hadn’t been exactly polite, but she was apparently also a guest so he wasn’t sure if that counted.
But although they were kind and generous the other Elves seemed almost rigid in their adherence to whatever rule set they followed. They had even asked about weapons proficiency and military experience, as if that was at all relevant to rescuing friends. Oh, sure, he could have told them about fighting in the Last Alliance or even the Battle of Five Armies but since he had primarily survived due to good luck rather than skill he didn’t think that was important to disclose.
Of course, he had absolutely intended to search for their companions before they had ever run into Lord Dolthafaer and his friends, but he and his cousin and granddaughter were not a seasoned search party. The Vanimar seemed to know what they were doing; doubtless they had rescued countless lost travelers before now, and would rescue many more before they eventually turned to the West. He was sure that if the Vanimar had said no then Tinurendis would have insisted on going anyway, but then they would have been without help.
Going with just the three of them would be far more perilous.
He had been relieved when Lord Dolthafaer had agreed that they could come; although he had no desire to be another lost soul in need of saving he also had no desire to idly kick his heels while his fellows were in need of help.
He would be glad once they were all accounted for.
Once they were all reunited.
