Gathering Supplies - part 3 - Zigilgund

Gathering Supplies, part 3
((Third part of the story))

The sun had just got up over the mountains near Ost Forod. Dhordur woke up and got his gear, the Dwarves were going to head of this morning, back towards Zigilgund. All seemed well, it was a fine morning when Dhordur met Hlifa and Thorlaen by the fire nearby for breakfast. They spoke a bit about the journey ahead while they were eating. As soon as they had finished eating, they gathered their gear and headed off to the old mammoth and the cart. Hlifa took the reigns and pulled them, the mammoth started to walk. It was slow at first as it was indeed old and tired.

They went with the road down from Ost Forod towards Forochel. They had just been walking a little bit when they saw a deer. They decided to hunt it so they could get some fresh meat with them. Thorlaen gave a try at it, he loaded his crossbow with a bolt. It went down fast after he had aimed the crossbow and fired the bolt towards the deer. Hlifa and Thorlaen carried it to the cart and put it up on it. Then they hurried on.

After a little bit of more walking they saw a bandit scout not far from the road. As soon as they had seen him, he noticed them as well. That was when Dhordur and Thorlaen decided to make a run for it to put him down. They had to, else he could go to his friends and bring more bandits. Both Thorlaen and Dhordur ran up to him with their weapons. They went in for a quick attack to put him down rather quickly. He was too fast, he evaded Dhordur's axe and parried Thorlaen's sword. The bandit was quick again and went in for a quick strike at the both Dwarves, he was lucky and managed to cut them both, no big wounds. Hlifa just watched the ongoing fight while Dhordur and Thorlaen attacked again. Dhordur managed to cut the bandit in his left arm, while Thorlaen managed to cut him in his side. Sadly there were no big enough wounds to keep him down as he quickly went in for a counter attack.

This attack the Dwarves were prepared for and managed to evade it. The next attack came from the Dwarves as they did a quick one before the bandit could re-attack them.  He evaded Thorlaen's sword but was struck by Dhordur's axe this time. The axe hit him in his side, making him stop for a bit before he showed anger and lashed out with an attack towards the Dwarves. Thorlaen was not prepared and was struck right over his chest and fell down. Hlifa shouted and ran up to him to help him. Dhordur himself managed to parry the sword when it came towards him. Dhordur was quick after that, he went in for a quick sweep with his axe. But the bandit was still too quick, he evaded the axe and quickly went in for a counterattack.  Dhordur managed to be quick enough and parried the bandits sword. He swiped with his axe quickly as Hlifa was stopping Thorlaen's bleeding.

This time the bandit was not quick enough, he was struck in his left leg and had to go down to his knees cause of the pain. But he was still able to attack with his sword against Dhordur. This time he was not as quick as before so Dhordur managed to parry the sword and went in for another axe sweep as he shouted, ''Bundabrak will have yer' head!'', that was the name of his axe. He was aiming for the neck and managed to cut the head off. It rolled down the side of the hill, past Hlifa and Thorlaen.

Then Dhordur quickly turned around and helped Hlifa to save Thorlaen. They managed to stop the bleeding and patch him up a bit. They carried Thorlaen to the cart and turned around, back to Ost Forod. As they were heading up the hill to Ost Forod, the mammoth slipped and fell. The cart rolled off as well with Thorlaen on it. When it stopped it fell to the side with all the supplies and Thorlaen.

It took Hlifa and Dhordur a long time to put the cart back up and load it with both Supplies and Thorlaen, then it took them even longer to drag the cart back up to Ost Forod. The mammoth had died as it fell, that was why they had to drag the cart themselves now. They could not save all the supplies as they needed to hurry back to make sure that Thorlaen was well...

To be continued...
