Age 0-30
Nyr was born in 2851 T.A. in the Blue Mountains into the House of his father: The Firebeards. His mother was one of the few Longbeard wives ever to have been taken into the family. This makes Nyr in effect a son of two Houses, though, as is custom with dwarves, the genealogy of the wives are considered of little importance and their names are not mentioned in the family records apart from very personal notes or poems. Hence there is little told of Nyr's mother, other than that she loved her husband's cooking skills. Nyr grew up a fine little dwarrow with dark blonde, almost gold-like hair.
He played with toys his father had bought from renowned toymakers from the Longbeard exiles who had once made marvellous and magical toys much like them for the markets of Dale. His father read to him from the annals of the dwarves every night, which may have sparked his interest in these stories and have forged the foundations of a future life as a chronicler.
Age 30 - 75
At the age of 30 Nyr was introduced into the crafts the dwarves excelled at since the awakening of the Seven. His father asked his cousin Thorfin to teach Nyr about mining and so he did. For the following years Nyr was tought everything a dwarf ought to know about digging out tunnels and looking for precious metals and for a while this seemed to appeal strongly to young Nyr who thought there was nothing greater than the excitement of finding veins of silver midst the grey and endless mass of stone. But at the end of the day he was more often found studying maps of mines in the Blue Mountains instead of actually spending time there.
From his distant uncle Fingar (the best jeweller in the family at the time), Nyr learned of the different types of gems, their value and how these could serve to make marvellous jewellery. He grew quite fond of necklaces and rings and made many himself. He would come to be an adept jeweller, and though it is his favourite pastime even to this day, he never mastered it. Instead he just gleefully noted down everything he learned and he wrote admiringly about his tutors.
It was the same story with smithing. Though Nyr took a liking of the heat of smoldering fires in the crafting hall, he never pursued to become a great smith. Instead he loved to read about the greatest smiths that ever lived and he would happily devour the records of his kin on every coat of mail that was ever made.
He soon learned that his interest in maps, writing and reading books was a sign that his talent lay with the written word and he began to write poems and consumed much of the annals of the dwarves and learned everything he could about the history of his kindred. Meanwhile he continued to work as a miner to earn his first coin, but his talent as a chronicler was starting to unfold itself.
Age 75 - 167
Around the time he had seen 76 winters he stopped working in the mines altogether and with his father's blessing he began to work as a keeper of records and as a scribe, writing letters and contracts. As his skill with cirth runes and westron evolved, he offered his services as a chronicler, working for different patrons. Around the age of 80 he started travelling far abroad and his longing for adventure started to take hold. He wrote about his adventures and the things he would find on the road, often taking lots of artifacts and treasure with him back home. He commenced his work on Plight of the Stouthammers Volume I in the year 2951 T.A. and he was starting to gain recognition among his peers.
In the course of 75 years he earned himself quite the reputation as a master chronicler, poet and adventurer. He wrote and sang songs about older times, constructed odes to ancient warriors, gathered all manner of texts and books and translated many existing works while working on developing his own. He became known among Firebeards as Keeper of Memories, or Amrazu Uzal in the tongue of the dwarves. The King then sought to acquire his services and when he moved the court to tears with his poem about the Battle of Sarn Athrad, he was appointed as High Chronicler and warrior-skald to the Firebeard House, responsible for all the records of their kin. He bade the king to allow him to continue his inspiring travels across Middle-Earth and the king gave him leave to do as he pleased - High Chronicler was more of a title than an actual occupation anyway. In return Nyr brought home many treasures and new poems and songs to delight their ears.
And so it was that by his 167th year he had collected many titles aside from High Chronicler. He became one of the greatest adventurers of the Blue Mountains and thus some called him simply Nyr the Great Adventurer or Nyr the Treasure Seeker. Others knew him better as Nyr the Bard - referring mostly to his skill with the mighty drum Bone-shaker, a legendary war-drum that the king gave him when he made him one of his warrior-skalds. Nyr's deep singing voice and the throbbing sound of the huge drum complemented each other so well that they said it was as if the Mountain itself spoke to them.
Lastly, he became a spokesman for the Longbeards as well when he agreed to aid Kandral Strongbeard to bring together all the dwarves of the seven houses under the banner of Durin's Folk. For while he was proud of his heritage as a Firebeard, he also learned from the stories he knew so well that the dwarves were capable of great things when they worked together like they had done in the past. The promise of the retaking of Khazad-Dûm and its treasures may have something to do with it, for Moria is said to hold many forgotten secrets and Nyr longs to discover them.
Age 167 - ...
With the War of the Ring, Nyr has not sit still. His adventures have only grown more dangerous and war has been portended. More than ever Nyr feels like it is necessary for all dwarves to work together so that they may see the world renewed.
With the Battle for the Mountain in 3019, he would take his part in the great war alongside the last of his closest kin in an attempt to regain their long-lost glory. His remaining relatives, Fruni and Fikli, pay for it with their lives, leaving Nyr as the last of the Stouthammers to live and see the coming of the Fourth Age.
