A run through the night

Damyn pressed his back up to a broad oak, trying to slow his breathing and listen to his surroundings, holding the hand of the young girl beside him. They were being pursued and this company of men showed no sign of letting up, chasing the survivors of the caravan-raid for nearly a full day since the initial attack.

Steadying his breathing he looked around the trunk when their pursuers seemed to have halted, gathered around and whispering to one another. Unable to hear the words they spoke and unable to read their lips he slowly backed away, tugging at the girl's hand to follow him into the farther darkness of the night.

''We are going to be just fine, do not worry.'' Damyn whispered close to the young girl's ear as he leans over to her. ''Bree is not far from here. We will find someone to help you out, I promise.'' Damyn reached down to her to pick her up and slung her over his shoulder, placed his hand on her back and an arm around her legs to ensure she'd not be slipping from his grip as he started to quicken his steps in his search for the town of Bree.
