What you be writing there then my Jaybird?
Just a letter
And who gets such fine words?
To Elias
Her father groaned as he put his head in his hands, elbows to his knees and slowly dragged his palms down his face in exasperation. Getting up from the chair, he went to get another bottle of "Blackburrow Brew" and retreated to a spot by the fire. She though continued to write, with as much care and attention as she could muster, and a hollow feeling in her heart. The table she sat at though looked delectable, a fresh white linen cloth laid atop of it, and atop of that plates of pastries, both savory and sweet, cold meats, cheeses, fruits and vegetables, though taking centre stage a large strawberry tart, large enough for each and every person to have a generous piece. Her little corner of the table though had a ceramic inkwell, some lavender and several small pieces of parchment, one of which had already been written upon and those words scrubbed out neatly with a large X.
It's not what you think Pa
It's exactly what I bloody well think, you wasting time on someone who aint got time for you! Forgetting what he did to you? To Aggie?
Course not! I'm looking at paying me way, sending him coin is all, just don't know how much it is, and I aint going down there, even if I could, to ask him! Master Bild said you were to be writing, or Ma, about it, but it be my problem, my body.
Taught you too bloody well I did, responsibility, paying your debts, he could have learnt a thing or two from you lass
He did Pa
Oh aye? What be that then?
Jackilyn ignored him as she set the letter aside to dry
Young lady, I said, what be that?
How to lose a lass Pa.
No my Jaybird, how to lose you, bloody idiot. You been drinking my beer? Few bottles were missing.
That'll be Aggie Pa, gave some to Master Bild and Master Maddoct. He were lovely stopping by and all, though wants Master Maddoct to come and see me, you know, check over me and all again. He weren't all that happy with how I be doing, but he said it were to be expected, that it'll take a while. Told him how the lass had been by, how she been making medicine and all with Missus Denton.
Her father grimaced, but conceded with a...
Aye..good lass, just odd. Course not as odd as her Ma
She not be her Ma, just someone who looked after her
I know you like the girl but good riddance to the other one, bloody creepy woman, I swear she made my hair fall out!
You shouldn't have argued with her, it be what she does, all be fine and then you get her angry? Hair falls out, or teeth, maybe you break a bone the following day. All folk who know her know this.
Her father drank deeply from the bottle, though not before muttering
Good riddance, to him and her
