Ballad of the Journey to the East

They are to set out at dawn,

leaving the fair Rivendell.

And their fellowship include all peoples –

Hobbit, Elf, Dwarf and Man.

For the Men, Thindaer shall guard them.

He is long in exile from his own land,

a ceaseless and lonely hunter

of the servants of the Enemy.

For the Elves, Linglorel, the tree Elf lady.

For she can read grass and leaf

and will thread a safe path through

all places where the roots are long

and the years lie thick on the leaves.

For the Dwarves, Frimsi, Lord of Stone.

His ear shall tell the rumours of the Earth

and quide the team through

the dark places of the mountains.

For the Hobbits, Passerose shall go,

for her loyalty and love,

and for the honour of the Shire.

And hope

shall be a light in their hearts,

to guide their way.
