"Liar? Rogue? Womanizer? Betrayer of trusts? Indeed, Edstan has his faults. But Gods, what a knife-fighter!" - Dale Truitt
===================================================================
Edstan was born of well-to-do, though not noble, parents, and grew up in Esgaroth. In this cosmopolitan area he learned of far-off lands and cultures, heard exotic languages, and saw strange customs. The finest instructors taught him in hunting (though not the best archer), sailing, and horsemanship. Around the campfires of nomads' caravans from the East, he loved to hear them tell tales. At their stained (and rather smelly) knees he learned how to tell a story with the verve, pace, excitement, and contempt for accuracy that satisfies the listener but makes the historian's job hard.
He picked up combat easily due to training under Dale Truitt, a renowned Knife-Fighter. This aided Edstan, leading him into becoming a soldier at a young age. With a silver tongue his reputation grew— and he also inflated accounts of his heroism with it.
Edstan is a daring rogue that claims to have scaled every mountain, sailed every sea, beaten every creature in existence, bedded the most beautiful of lasses in all of Arda and lived life to the fullest. His tall tales spiral out of control upon each session and while the facts may not be kept straight, there is indeed a sense of curiosity perked.
Over the years, though, Edstan has done things which can only be claimed by himself. He does not care whether or not anyone believes his accomplishments. For him, memory is the most precious treasure the world can offer. Basking in this rather than glory, he keeps to his journey— often times alone. It was in this time of solace that the man learned a great deal more about himself by aiding others during the War of the Ring. How and where did he go? That's another story to tell.
If one can manage to keep open minded around Edstan, you might just catch a glimpse of the man behind the myth. Otherwise... you've only just become a piece of a much larger story.
