Outward Appearance

Unalike from many other Dúnedain, Orendir has strikingly tan skin and eyes that seem to change from gray to blue in different lights. His hair is more usual among his brethren, it being light brown and bits of grey at unkempt shoulder length. His frame is also typical of the northern Dúnedain lean, toned and hardened giving all the indications of a hard existence in the wilds. He stands at 6'4 which puts him at an average height compared to the rest of his kin but considerably taller when matched with the average man or woman. His face appears to give him a weary appearance, it’s features lined with the wrinkles of worry and time. It is common to see a beard sported across his jaw, which he often lets grow wild in times of great conflict or struggle. Orendir would be considered aesthetically pleasing for his age however it is evident that the years of injuries and sleep deprivation have taken its toll on his features and his appearance is no longer as appealing as it may once have been in his youth.

Appearance

Unalike from many other Dúnedain, Orendir has strikingly tan skin and eyes that seem to change from grey to blue in different lights.

Personality

Orendir is commonly known to be thoughtful and calculating, he is no longer so quick to action or even speech as he was in younger days, his long years having taught him the lesson of patience. He is respectful and carries little desire for conflict (among his fellow man, err, free-peoples) but has strong morals, opinions and prejudices that he is not likely to shy away from. His mood depends greatly on the situation and company but the typical range seems to lie somewhere between off settling grimness and a content, settled sort of happiness. Orendir's personality is framed by his existence as a Dúnadan Ranger. He rarely lets his guard down and always finds himself preparing for and expecting the worst possible outcome in any situation. His typical attitude and mannerisms are evidence to the fact that he has not learned how to separate his duty as a Ranger and his personal life; the latter allowed to be so all-consuming of the other. Orendir's entire existence revolves around the constant battle for survival he and his fellow northern Dúnedain face. He longs to see peace return to his homeland along with the former glory of the olden kingdoms. He has no surviving wife, child or any other immediate family and while he has many friends in truth he has committed his entire adult life to ‘the cause’ giving little thought to what he will do when or if the long war finally ends assuming he does indeed live through it.

Integrity/Morals - (Chaotic Good)

Orendir has his own set of morals governed by the needs of the situation. He would never steal, lie or cheat for his own self-benefit but if such actions were needed to assist his friends or aid him in performing his duty as a ranger, he would do so unquestionably. He would not, however, willingly or knowingly kill anyone he perceives as being innocent or defenseless regardless of the benefit of such action. He carries a vague ‘Us vs. Them’ mentality when it comes to non-Dúnedain and while it is not something he shows openly, or is even particularly self aware of he would undoubtedly choose ‘his own’ over another. He is lawful to a degree but is willing to bend the rules in order to accomplish what he sees as the ultimate goal of restoring peace and defeating the forces of the enemy.

Sexual Orientation-

Orendir is heterosexual

Quirks, Habits, and Hobbies

Quirks – Orendir can often be found talking or muttering to himself, a side effect of having spent a considerable portion of his life alone in the wilds. He is not mad by any means but likes to verbally express his thoughts. This is something he tries to suppress when in the company of others.

Habits – Orendir seems to have an obsession with chewing things, be it leather, pipe-weed, or the occasional twig. He also sighs constantly.

Hobbies – Orendir is an ardent student of history as it relates to the journey taken by the descendants of Númenor and their occupation of Middle-Earth. He knows the tales of his forebears extremely well but has only layman knowledge of the general history of other races, peoples and Arda as a whole. Orendir has learned how to whittle fairly well and enjoys making carvings in his spare time; he is known to give said carvings away to strangers and friends alike.

Weaknesses

Mental/Emotional Problems or Disorders – Orendir can be cold at times. He is calculating and willing to cut out those he deems a detriment towards, or indifferent towards, his goals.

Strengths

Physical attributes – Strength and Endurance Although not bulky and more toned Orendir is strong out of necessity, he lives a hard life and is constantly physically exerting himself in everyday tasks. He can lift, pull and push objects twice his own bodyweight with relative ease if he needs to but his true strength is his endurance. He can and has /run/, not jogged, for hours on end and is unmatched by most in terms of cardiovascular fitness. His lineage and lifestyle have crafted him to be stronger, faster and better suited to last longer than most trained fighters and athletes.

Talents and Abilities - Experienced Fighter and Survivalist

Orendir has suffered many injuries over the years and his fighting ability has diminished to a degree because of this but he is still deadly with or without his weapons. He has trained and practiced with his body, his sword, his spear and his knives since before he can recall and has utilized this training in countless conflicts with orcs, men and wild beasts oftentimes outnumbered. He brings to the table dozens and dozens of experiences with real life combat both armed and hand-to-hand. In addition to this he has been forced to learn how to live off the land without any sort of support system. He can fish, forage, trap, track and hunt with the best of them. He knows the wilds like the back of his hand and can easily navigate, dwell within and thrive on rough or unfamiliar terrain despite seemingly meager available resources. Orendir lives in a world of constant guerilla warfare, he brings the fight to the hordes of the enemy and survives just out of their reach in the only way he can and his talents and abilities have come to reflect this reality.

On Their Person

The Tome of House Orendir- Orendir sometimes carries an ancient looking tome detailing the history and exploits of his house that traces back to their departure from Númenor. If it is not on his person then it is stored somewhere safe out of the elements.

Westernesse Long Sword- A longsword likely crafted some time in the early second age is sheathed across Orendir's back in a plain tanned leather scabbard. Being typical of Westernesse steel it is lightweight, strong and dangerously sharp. The bottom of the hilt is fashioned with two sapphire images of a seven-crested star on either side but despite that the blade remains incredibly functional.

Angmarim Dirk- In another plain tanned leather sheath this time at his side hanging from his belt is a wicked looking dirk of obvious Angmarim origins. Its blade is made of thick black-steel with jagged serrations and teeth made for causing terrible wounds to one’s opponent. The hilt is also jagged on either side and has been wrapped in leather bindings to provide a better grip.

Orendir's Spear- Orendir's spear is much like any other spear carried by the Dúnedain. It stands a few inches shorter than he himself at around 6 feet and is crafted from a yew tree. The tip is made of a light weight steel and is bound in place by cloth and leather wrappings which follow the length of the shaft in some places giving the weapon solid grip points and making it superb for throwing. It most often finds itself with Orendir's mount.

Astuil’s Boot Knife- A sheath fashioned into Orendir’s right boot holds his large woodsman’s knife. It is fashioned from plain steel and ends in a curved scimitar styled tip. It is larger, thicker and longer than most knives making it an excellent utilitarian tool for all sorts of activities.

Background

Birthplace – Orendir was born along the shores of Nenuial which is Sindarin for Lake of Twilight, otherwise known as Lake Evendim.

Family – Orendir's parents died when he had barely seen eight winters, he was raised collectively by a group of wayfaring Dúnedain in the various camps of his people until he came of age for a Ranger. He lost a wife and young child in his early twenties. The northern Dúnedain generally speaking are Orendir's family and regarded as brothers and sisters as is commonplace for his kind. Orendir has a gondorian cousin of Dúnedain descent, Gimiladun and holds his best friend and fellow Dúnadan Crowwe in deep regard. He has lost several brothers in arms over the years most notably Arelaith.

Challenges – Orendir was the captain of Radestel Company, a band of Dúnedain refugees, for nearly eight years. The company was in the process of fleeing southward towards the more peaceful Angle region away from the Shadow of Angmar when they were waylaid by a war band known as Kallaban Tud. The encounter resulted in the Massacre of Radestel Company, the sheer destruction brought upon his brethren that day has devastated Orendir and it is likely he will never fully recover from the loss.
