Faenlas was born in Greenwood in the last quarter of the first millennium of the Second Era. He has Sindar origins from his father who was one of the Grey Elves that followed Oropher to Eryn Galen while his mother was a Silvan Elf, altough he holds few memories of her as she left Greenwood under mysterious circumstances three years after Faenlas was born. Although he always knew that his father knew the reason for his mother's disappearance, Faenlas never managed to talk about it openly with him, who ended up taking the secret to the afterlife dying with his king and friend Oropher in the Battle of Dagorlad in front of Faenlas eyes. After that event, Faenlas continued to serve under Oropher's son Thranduil as a loyal ranger of the Woodland realm for many centuries until, after taking part in the Battle of the Five Armies, he decided and got allowed from Thranduil himself to leave Mirkwood and start his journey through Middle Earth to help the free folks in the battle against Sauron's forces, also continuing to maintain a faint hope to find out something more about his mother's fate. He doesn't hesitate to come back to his homeland if his king or his people need help, as happened during the Battle under the trees.
