Background
I am Hyoreth of Grey Havens, a hunter elf who was found as a small infant, on the banks of the river Lhûn, on a moonlit night by a human fisherman, whom raised me as his child.
I have learned to naviguate and fish in the Gulf of Lune in my early childhood. It was at the beginning of the Third Age, as the elves were passing to the West through the sea, that I have met with an old elf sailor, who, intrigued at seeing an elf working at a human's place, proposed to enrol me as a squire of the knighthood of Mithlond.
That man revealed himself to be Cirdan the Shipwright, Master of Mithlond. I was forced to leave my father, and live in the House of Mithlond. There I was instructed about arts such as music composition, runic literature and philosophy, while following an intensive training in the arts of horse riding, bow hunting, and swordsfighting.
As It became visible that I was not a boy, long after entering adolescence, Cirdan whom had unofficially adopted me as his kin, took great surprise at this discovery, and revised his decision of making a knight out of me. I was designed a maid servant under the authority of his wife, the Mistress of Mithlond.
Cirdan had hidden his disappointment, by sending me away from him, as he had expectations about me to become his heir, being unable to have a biological descendance of his own. The news of my feminine nature had given him a great confusion in his feelings towards me.
I could not accept this change of treatment, having always been a wild and free spirit, I did not want to live the rest of my life, attached to household responsibilities, the maiden locked between the four walls of the fortress.
On a moonless night, I decided to escape from this barless cage, and ran away from the House in the dark of the night. As I approached the harbor of Grey Havens, my decision was made to set sail incognito to the West, where I could be the master of my own life, free and carefree as a bird.
Cirdan had been made aware of my disparition by his wife, and knew where to find me. As I set foot onto the tangling bark, his hand grabbed my arm, and pushed me firmly ashore.
He said : " Hyoreth, do not leave me, like a child in the shadow in the night. "
- I have no master but myself, I replied in a troubled voice, as I moved away from his reach, unknotting the rope holding the bark from the docking pin.
- But you have a father, do you remember ? he asked, in a wounded voice.
At this words, I set foot onto the bark again, and looked back.
- My father is the ocean, and the moon is my mother, I replied, remembering the tale of the fisherman's discovery, at the opening of the Lhûn River, on a summer night eighteen years ago. Let me be free, dada. »
After a moment of reflection, the Master of House Mithlond, plunged his dark blue gaze into mine, and said, in a slow and studied tone :
" You are free, moon child. Let the ocean take you away, but promise you will come back to me. "
As the bark slowly began rolling away into the calm and plane dull blades of the waves, the dark silver clouds opened to reveal a hard obsidian sky, lightened by the opale eye of my mother. I looked at last at Cirdan, and answered : " I promise ".
My journey to the Great Sea, has led me onto the shores of Rohan, where I sailed upstream the River Gwathlo, and onto Rivendell. I followed many quests there, and later crossed the Misty Mountains through the Moria Mines. I adventured onto the land of Lorien, and ventured north to meet the sylvan elves of the Mirkwood.
I am now known as Hyoreth of Lorien.
