An accurate account of Drevorin, as he appears at the beginning of the Fourth Age of Middle-Earth.

~

Great change has occurred in the years of Drevorin’s absence. Many in Eriador remember him as a broken man both in body and in spirit. A shadow of his former self with an eerie demeanour which exuded caution. Whilst aspects of this appearance remain, time has been a great healer. Returning to the waking world from his long exile, he appears better for it.

His once pale, sickly complexion has become healthier in hue. The gaunt and hollow effects of his tormented life have partially subsided bringing an air of youth which, considering he is much older, is mildly surprising. His dark, unruly hair has turned a shade of grey due to this advanced age, however it is now tied back into a small ponytail revealing much of his usually hidden face. His eyes, a piercing blue, have not lost any of their potency, but there are many lines about his face. The long, diagonal scar that runs from his left brow down to his right cheek remains all the more present but is less unpleasant to behold on the account of his fairer appearance.

His voice remains deep in tone, gravelly and rough. Nevertheless, he speaks with a sophisticated tongue and is well-pronounced in his words. He seldom speaks unless necessary and only when a point needs to be made. Although still quite an imposing figure, based upon his size, he is calmer and more collected in his general manner and is more approachable among the population.

Shedding himself of his traditional black robe and chainmail, he is often seen in public wearing a set of black, quilted garments and matching leather boots. When on the road, he is more equipped for its dangers, wearing a mixture of chainmail, plated armour and hard leathers to add protection and mobility in combat. His fighting style in question is still quite unorthodox, but by no means fuelled by blind rage as it was before. It has a much more refined and strategic approach which has served him well in his time of need.

His sword has been reforged and repurposed but remains the same blade. A new hilt has been fitted with a V-shaped guard, a handle long enough for two hands and a circular pommel. The blade is of claymore size but is lighter than one would expect. The origin of the steel remains a mystery, but it is of exceptional quality.

It would be remiss not to address the matter of Drevorin’s sanity, which was heavily fragmented during the Third Age. Obsessed with manipulation, control and fear in a ploy to gain power was his sole motivation. His insane schemes caused much damage to innocent people and will not soon be forgotten or forgiven. In the present time, Drevorin has demonstrated signs of genuine remorse for his crimes. He does not expect forgiveness or seeks it but endeavors to make amends for his deeds through actions rather than words. He also acknowledges that the infliction of these evils were of his own making, and does not find excuses to justify the events that transpired.

"The pages of your past cannot be rewritten, but the pages of your tomorrows are blank."

Background

Once a young soldier of Gondor, Drevorin was captured and tortured mercilessly by the Easterling leader known as Mordevin. Caught in an ambush, Drevorin and his comrades languished for years on end within the cavern hideout of his host, driven to madness. Be it by the hand of the Easterlings or through sheer despair, only Drevorin survived captivity and was eventually set loose, a broken man, upon the world. This was no kindness on Mordevin’s part, for he deemed Drevorin a danger to himself and others, hoping he would wreak havoc upon his enemies. At this point in time, Drevorin had nothing but sheer loathing towards Gondor, whom he thought had abandoned him.

Finding his way home, Drevorin discovered that life had moved on without him. To his dismay, he found the woman whom he had married with another. In a frenzy of madness and confusion, he viciously murdered them both and fled the scene; never to be seen in Gondor again.

Years passed before Drevorin established himself in Eriador, scheming and plotting alongside his new-found accomplice Milawyn in a bid to gain power and control. To say Drevorin was in his right mind would be untrue, for his thoughts and senses were fragmented and broken; causing him to act irrationally towards those who stood in his way. Milawyn fuelled Drevorin’s resolve, making him especially dangerous. As a result, the pair made many enemies and fought countless battles together. It was not until Milawyn became pregnant that Drevorin decided to return her to Rohan, her homeland; where she may raise the child away from danger.

The road was perilous. It was on the edge of Dunland where they were beset upon by a group of monstrous uruk-hai. In the panic, Milawyn hid the now born child named Arthenion before they were captured. The child’s fate is yet unknown to them.

Through further bloodshed, the pair managed to escape the clutches of the uruk-hai. Both abandoning the possibility that the child survived the attack and with no choice but to continue South, they journeyed through Rohan to Snowbourne, where their long partnership came to an end.

Years have passed since that day. What became of Drevorin is unknown, for he had not been sighted in Eriador since his departure. Most of his enemies presumed he had perished, whilst others whispered rumours of sightings upon the road. The world continued to move on and eventually his name became all but forgotten.

Until now...
