Background
Robertián is a Noldorin Elf born during the First Age to his father, Everath, an Elf-Lord and his mother, Eialandál. When the Elves of Noldor founded the kingdom of Lindon, he and his family lived there in luxury and peace. Being the eldest child, Robertián would inherit his father's title and estate should he leave these lands or be killed. This was ahead of his two siblings: His sister, Lilaén, was as fair as her mother and wed a rogue hunter from Greenwood, where they still dwell together with their children. His brother was Haláfien, who was as proud as his father. He fought alongside Robertián in the wars to come, but was killed on the Dagorlad Plains during the War of the Last Alliance, much to Robertián grievance.
Robertián's first taste of battle came when the War of the Elves and Sauron broke out, and he was called upon to take up arms and fight. He joined Elrond's force in the Siege of Eregion, in which he witnessed the destruction on those lands, along with many of his kind. But it was here that he learnt his way around a bow; something he would find useful later on in life. When Eregion was sacked and Celebrimbor was slain by Sauron, Robertián retreated with the survivors, led by Lord Elrond and helped build Imladris, a place he would call home for thousands of years. He no longer saw Lindon as his homeland, and was among the first Elves to hail from 'Rivendell'.
Once Rivendell was formed, Robertián took up residence there and began serving as a scholar and librarian in the Last Homely House. It was by doing this he developed his love of history and books. He studied endlessly to ensure his knowledge of Middle-earth was deep. Despite living on the other side of Eriador to his family, Robertián still travelled there in the winter and spent that season with them.
For the rest of the Second Age, Robertián served Elrond's Library with both care and enthusiasm. He loved learning of new things, and the library certainly had no end of that. Along with studying books, he also wrote many of his own concerning what occured during the Second Age; a time when he was most happy. In this time, he married Gildarián, who was also an Elf from Lindon. Their love for one another was shared until the close of the Second Age, in which time they had a son named Everath II.
As a hobby during the two days a week he had away from the library, he would ride into the Trollshaws forest and grow herbs on a plot of land he owned. But this land became overridden by the foul creatures of the forest thousands of years ago. He also enjoyed making things, and was a keen crafter.
The Elves had known for some time that the Dark Lord Sauron was regathering his strength in Mordor, and many had left these lands to be away from these growing woes. Among these was Gildarián, who was put on a ship with her son by Robertián. Vowing that they would meet again soon, Robertián returned to Imladris to prepare for war. For three years the host of Men and Elves dwelt in the Valley, making arms and training for the coming battle. Robertián trained as a blacksmith and helped created many arms. He also trained as an archer again, which he was during the War of the Elves and Sauron. At last he joined the Host and took the long road to Mordor, it was on this road that he befriended many Men, and came to respect them until the end of the War.
Once there, the battle soon erupted. After weeks of merciless battle, the Last Alliance pushed through the Black Gates and poured into the wretched land. Robertián took position along with the other archers, his brother among them, and began to aid the final push. Like all the other Elven-archers, every arrow met the target. Though in this time, his brother was struck in the shoulder by a poisoned Orc-arrow. Breaking formation, Robertián dragged him into the back lines. Despite all his attempts to save his dear brother, Haláfien died in his arms. This moment still sorrows Robertián up to this day, and is the reason he vows never to take up arms again. Rejoining the ranks of archers in a rage, he mercilessly slew many Orcs. He saw from a distance the Dark Lord himself, and witnessed him swinging many of the Alliance aside with his great mace. Though he also saw the great flash of white which knocked down all those upon the Dagorlad Plains. Victory was here, though it was on this day that Man failed.
Returning to Rivendell, Robertián continued his work as a librarian until the winter he was to see his family in Lindon. Riding there in early November. He found that his experience in the War had humbled him, and he no longer wished to live with the comfort of having his family name proceeding him. After spending the winter there, he left his family home., telling them that he would not return there until he leaves Middle-earth. By doing this, he was no longer Everath's heir, as by telling his father this, he had disowned himself. All that was left of his former noble past is a leaf given to him in the First Age; it was taken from the Undying Lands by his father and given to him when he was young, though he is not inclined to talk about his past.
For another three thousand years, he continued his work in the library at Imladris. Here he also wrote several more books concerning the First and Second Age. He also joined many research expeditions that have taken him through many of the western lands including Gondor, Rohan, Rhovanion and even the north of Harad. Knowing that Sauron was reforming his power once more,he felt that not enough was being done about the growing threat of Mordor, as many of his kind felt it was no longer their problem. In the year 3017 of the Third Age, he left Rivendell to seek the company of Men. He wished to advise them on matters he had studied all his life. He above all wished to teach them that peace should be maintained, and that war should only be a last option. Upon reaching Bree, he began searching for such a company. It took him two years of wandering Bree to find them, but he eventually joined the Knights of Eriador.
He now serves the Knights as a scholar and librarian, something that he much enjoys. The Ages he has lived through has given him much knowledge, something that he is willing to pass onto the Knights that he serves. He does not ask for anything in return for his services, only that those who use the library leave it with more knowledge than when they entered it.
As an Elf, Robertián is not the most cheerful of all beings, knowing that his time in the lands he loves is slowly coming to an end, which grieves him more and more everyday. Because of his heritage, he seems like a proud person, despite being quite humble. He is not a violent person, and believes that talking about matters is far better than using a weapon to deal with them. He has not taken up arms for over three thousand years due to his experience during the Ages and does not intend to unless he or others close to him are directly threatened. He is only ever defensive when it comes to his work, which he takes very seriously, and will become aggresive to those who damage the library or the books within. Despite his serious and closed nature, he is very caring for those around him and is loyal to those who have respect and good will. He seeks solitude often, because when he is in the company of Men, his grief for his brother sets in.
His experience of the world that has lasted well over five thousand years has allowed him to pick up the cultures of other races. He can speak Sindarin, the Common Tongue, Gondorian, Rohirric. He can also write and translate Dwarvish, though he never speaks it. His open mindedness has allowed him to appreciate multiculturalism, this can be shown by the fact that he smokes recreationally; something he has picked up on during his time with the Knights.
As part of his vocation, Robertián often travels the lands, searching through ruins for artifacts and knowledge. These expeditions are carried out by Robertián alone, which he prefers. The items he recovers are then placed in safe storage at Hookworth. Despite his apparent preference of being alone in his studies, he would enjoy taking on a student to pass his thousands of years of experience on to. He believes that his war experiences and his travels make him eligible to give counsel to others, though he is not proud of his life as a soldier. Despite what it may seem, he does not spend all that much time in the library himself; he often takes his work down to the lake and works there.
