Background
Rodhirid's earliest memories are of cleaning the silver comb his father used to brush the Mearas in the royal stables of Edoras. Belonging to a line of Mearh breeders, he proved to be a skilled groom and took pride in his ancestral profession as he started to comprehend the power and beauty of the Mearas. Like most Rohirrim he loved riding though as stable hands his family was forbidden from mounting the descendants of Felaróf, a privilege reserved for the King and his sons. The young Rodhirid dreamed that he would one day become a Marshal of Rohan, prove his skill as horseman and warrior, and be granted a Mearh. On his fifteenth birthday he was allowed to join an éored, though his unit was never raised. As his sword and shield rusted in the stables, his dreams of glory faded away and his hands grew accustomed to currycomb and pitchfork.
His life changed with the arrival of the elf Arradir to Edoras. Arradir was an emissary of an elf lord from Mithlond who wanted to buy a Mearh as a gift for his city. Though Rodhirid did not understand the elf lords reasoning, he ultimately did not care for it. His childhood dreams were rekindled. This was his chance to prove himself to the King. Using what influence his family had garnered over generations, he managed to be included in the party that was to deliver the horse to Mithlond. However, the journey turned out to be disastrous as the group was ambushed before they even reached the Fords of Isen. Rodhirid succeeded in mounting the Mearh and the two managed to escape thanks to the horse's extraordinary speed and stamina. They rushed through the South Road towards Bree.
Rodhirid's moment of glory did not last long, however, as a band of brigands ambushed the duo in the Chetwood. Having lost the Mearh and imprisoned by bandits, both Rodhirid and Arradir failed their masters. After they were rescued by a ranger, they joined the fight against Evil hoping that their journey will somehow reunite them with the Mearh for they both know that they cannot return home with the shame of having failed their mission.
